Sam Penrod reporting A rollover accident on I-15 in Utah County Monday morning claimed the life of an Arizona woman.
The accident occurred just after eight, when an SUV with nine people inside rolled down a steep embankment, killing a woman at the scene; several others were injured.
The SUV was apparently carrying a family from Arizona and was headed southbound on I-15.
Just before reaching the Santaquin exit, the driver of the SUV lost control. The vehicle hit the guard rail and then went down the step embankment.
At least four of those inside were ejected. The driver, an adult man, was trapped underneath the SUV but was conscious. However, the woman who was also underneath the SUV was killed.
The freeway was slushy at the time and investigators say the weather could have been a factor, but they are still investigating.
Sgt. Richard Christianson, Utah Highway Patrol: "What we do know is that the vehicle hit the guard rail and vaulted down a 50 foot embankment. The vehicle rolled several times, ejecting four or five of the occupants, there were a total of nine people in the vehicle, three adults and six juveniles."
The man who was trapped was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. Four others were transported to Mountain View Hospital in Payson. They are expected to be okay.
Southbound traffic was closed for about an hour, but reopened a little after nine this morning.
