HARRISVILLE, Weber County — A 3-year-old girl has died from injuries she sustained in a traffic accident, and police are investigating whether her mother, the driver, was impaired at the time.

Aubrey Joe Anderson, of Plain City, died at 2:13 a.m. Thursday at Primary Children's Medical Center from extensive head and neck trauma.

About 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Anderson was strapped in a child safety seat inside a car driven by her mother, Brandi Lee Stilke, 26. Stilke told investigators that Anderson was fussy and she had turned to deal with her, and then blacked out.

After blacking out, Harrisville Police Chief Max Jackson said Stilke, who was on Highway 89 near 1140 North, drifted off the right side of the road, went 100 yards through a vacant lot and a business parking lot, and smacked into a wall with decorative boulders, while going between 35 to 40 mph.

Stilke was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital with a fractured hip. Evidence inside the vehicle — including prescription pill bottles and alcohol containers — and statements made to investigators, lead police to believe that impairment was a factor, Jackson said.

Once toxicology tests are completed, the case will be handed over to the Weber County Attorney's Office.
