OGDEN -- Weber State's basketball team is without its star player Damian Willard, who went out with a foot injury early in the season. But the Wildcats still have another shot at the Big Sky title thanks to a great shooting performance.
The Wildcats are second in the nation in three point field goal percentage. Guard Scott Bamforth is No. 1 in the country in that category.
"I didn't really notice it until my fiancée showed me," he said. "It's a good thing to have but at the same time we're winning and that's what I'm happy about most."
Weber State head coach Randy Rahe said, "When Damian went down, it took us awhile to get comfortable. We made some adjustments. We had to move guys around and some players had to make some adjustments."
He said the team is comfortable now and as a result is shooting the ball better.
In what's turned out to be one of the most famous three pointers in Weber State history, Bamforth hit the half court shot at the buzzer to beat league-leading Northern Colorado.
"I told (an opposing player), ‘I'm about to make this shot and you're about to lose.' He didn't believe me," Bamforth said.
Coach Rahe told KSL he's not sure what was said, but Bamforth told him he called that one.
"Three weeks from now it will be an 80-foot shot. Two months from now it will be the shot came from outside the gym. But he is a very confident kid," Rahe said.
Bamforth has played the entire season with a separated right shoulder. His shoulder goes numb in the second half of each game.
