SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Two Alta High School cheerleaders lost their spots on the competition team because they didn't want to perform on a Sunday.
The squad has agreed to attend a national competition in March, which will require them to perform on Sunday.
Cheerleaders Caitlyn Cutler and Shannon Beach say they won't cheer on Sundays, so coaches booted them from the competition team.
Vance Allred, assistant principal at the school, said, "If a group of people doesn't want a performance to be done on Sunday I understand that religious view. But we cannot deny it to others who choose to participate on Sunday if that's their choice."
Allred says Cutler and Beach will be able to practice with the regular squad and cheer at games, but not with the competition team, which will be practicing a special routine for the March event.
