(KSL News) If you plan to make a stop at the post office today, you're not alone. Today is expected to be the busiest day of the year for the U.S. Postal Service.

On a typical day, mail carriers handle about 670 million pieces of mail. Today, that number should jump to 900 million.
Utah post offices are expecting more than two million cards and packages to be mailed today. With most things taking two days to travel, Wednesday will be the busiest day for deliveries.
A few tips to remember for holiday shipping:
No hazardous materials
Use bubble wrap or air peanuts for fragile items.
Don't forget the return address.
on't use red or green ink. It may look Christmas-y but the computers can't read it.
