OGDEN -- Another Utah Highway Patrol trooper's vehicle was hit Tuesday. But this accident did not appear to be the result of bad weather.
Just after 11 a.m. a UHP trooper was headed westbound on 12th Street when he stopped at the intersection at Wall Avenue, according to Ogden police.
The trooper, who was responding to a crash and had his emergency lights and siren on, checked to make sure the intersection was cleared before proceeding. But when he pulled into the intersection, he was struck by another vehicle that failed to yield. The car was going an estimated 30 to 40 mph when it struck the trooper's vehicle.
A man and his 3-year-old son suffered minor injuries, as well as the trooper, according to the UHP.
There was no immediate word on citations or why the driver did not see the trooper.
While the accident remains under investigation, Ogden Police Lt. Danielle Croyle says all people need to be aware of their surroundings.
"We are a community of distracted drivers," she said.
Four troopers have already been hit while on duty this year. Last year, 21 troopers were hit, seven of them in December. Many of the accidents were due in part to drivers going too fast on snowy and icy roads.
