SALT LAKE CITY -- Dashcam video shows a Utah Highway Patrol trooper nearly got hit by a car while assisting motorists on I-215.

Trooper Rusty Hurd was preparing to help a couple change a tire on I-215 west at about 600 North when he saw another car barreling toward them. He pulled a woman out of the way just before the oncoming car hit the one stopped with a flat tire.
"It could have been a traumatic event where someone could have possibly lost their life," he said.
"There was a perfect example that's on video of what we go through each day with people that won't follow our policy of moving over for emergency lights," he added.
Utah law requires motorists to move over one lane if possible for flashing lights.
UHP says in 2010 alone, 21 troopers were hit in these types of situations. Seven of them happened just last month.
