SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Chevron says the latest oil spill in Salt Lake City was bigger than previously estimated.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Chevron now estimates the spill involved as much as 500 barrels, up from the 100 to 200 barrels reported Thursday.
The oil leaked late Wednesday from a pipeline valve about 500 feet from the scene of a larger oil spill in June that fouled Red Butte Creek. The latest spill stopped short of the creek and was being contained with booms and earthen dams.
Crews have recovered about 95 percent of the spilled crude and hope to recover the rest over the weekend.
The earlier spill involved more than 800 barrels of oil.
