LAYTON -- Layton police have identified a body found Thursday evening in a creek behind the Davis County Central Library.

Investigators have not released the name of the man but did say they were able to identify him by a wallet he had on his person. They say there are no obvious signs of foul play.

The man's body was found by another man who was walking the popular Bamberger Trail behind the library just before 5:30 p.m.

As soon as police arrived at the scene, investigators began roping off the area, trying to preserve the scene as best as possible.

"There are really a lot of steps to preserving a crime scene because you really only get one shot at it," said Layton police Lt. Gerret Atkin.

Crews also brought in trucks equipped with high-powered construction lights, because the area where the body was found is extremely dark.

"At this time, it's not like the situation is going to change. So we really do have time on our side, and we just want to do everything that's necessary," Atkin said.
