PROVO -- Dozens of residents in Provo have been without heat and hot water for a week due to a corroded gas line.

The Daily Herald reports leaks in the line forced the city to shut down the system for at least 36 units at the Boulders housing complex at 750 S. 650 West.

Residents called the paper and told reporters they haven't been able to shower, they're worried about their children, and management has not given them straight answers on why they're without proper heat and water.

Work to fix the problem could begin sometime today. However, few contractors are qualified to work on the affected pipe, which is about 40 years old and is 3 1/2 inches in diameter.

The mayor, who just recently learned of the problem, says if a fix does not work within two days, Boulders management will have to put residents up in hotels until the problem is resolved.
