SALT LAKE CITY -- A 20-year-old man was hurt when he lost control of his car and crashed into a pole Saturday.

Police say he was headed south on State Street between 200 and 300 South when he suddenly veered into oncoming traffic. Witnesses say the man was speeding when he lost control.

The car slammed into a parking meter and a fire hydrant, took out two trees and clipped an SUV before crashing into a light pole.

"All we saw was dust and debris flying everywhere, so it was pretty scary moment," said Curtis Singletary, who witnessed the crash.

The driver was conscious when he was pulled from the car. He was taken to University Hospital in serious condition.
