LEHI -- Police arrested a Lehi man accused of holding his ex-girlfriend captive and sexually assaulting her in his van.
The Deseret News reports the alleged attack happened on Wednesday and the Daily Herald says it took place at the park and ride lot at 1200 West and 2100 North in Lehi.
The woman told police she bit the suspect, 58-year-old James Tanner, several times and hit him with a propane lamp as she tried to escape. At one point she managed to get out of the van but was forced back inside.
Police say Tanner released her after 12 hours.
They also say Tanner later called the woman to apologize, saying he took frustrations out on her and "never should have done it." He allegedly told police the sexual encounter was consensual.
The Daily Herald reports police got a search warrant for Tanner's vehicle and found women's underwear, women's shoes, a damaged propane lamp and other items inside. The woman had told police she left behind underwear and shoes in her haste to get away.
Tanner now faces kidnapping, rape and assault charges. He is being held on a $20,000 cash bail.
