STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR -- With the kids out of school an extra couple of days this week for UEA, you might be looking for something to do. For a quick getaway, Strawberry Reservoir is hopping with the big fish.

"With the water temperature, the fish are up high in the shallow water; about 20 feet and they are active," says Strawberry Marina owner Paul Phillips. "PowerBait, salmon -- peach or green color -- seems to work the best. Minnows and tube jigs also work very well."

I headed to Strawberry on Monday with Paul Phillips and my buddy Ken Clark, and we were able to catch 40 fish -- three of which were over 22 inches.

We also caught about 15 rainbow trout in the pound-and-a-half range.

We were on one of the pontoon boats available at the marina, but fishing from the shore has also been successful.

From now until the time the ice hits Strawberry, you should be able to have great success.
