LOGAN -- Jeremiah Jensen spoke with Utah State coach Gary Andersen about the Aggies' 31-16 victory over BYU Friday night in Logan that broke a 10-game losing streak to the Cougars. Here's what Andersen had to say about the emotional win and the neck injury he suffered earlier in the week that caused a trip to the emergency room.
On the win over BYU:
"It's a big step for us. It's an instate rival game against BYU, it's been a lopsided affair for many, many years, and we've talked long and hard about how to make this thing a rivalry again, and this is the first step. You've got to have success to make something be a rivalry, and now that we've had some success, it's a step in the right direction. To have the atmosphere, ESPN, a full house; Cache Valley, Utah State University, Logan deserves that. These kids deserve that. I couldnt be more proud to be their coach, and it's a great opportunity for them."
On his neck injury:
"It was a very, very stressful day, there's no question. It was scary. It changed the way I think about a lot of things, and I think it was good for me at the end of the day, but as we went through the week, I thought my coaches did just a tremendous job. When I came back and watched those kids practice on Wednesday - they've always practiced hard, but they just had a little bit different look in their eye. It was a special, special day for us. It's been an up-and-down week, but it ended the way I hoped it would and, again, I'll remember it for a long time."
