OREM, Utah (AP) -- Orem's public works chief has been named the city's interim administrator following the death of longtime City Manager Jim Reams.

The City Council named Bruce Chesnut interim city manager following a closed-door meeting where administrative department heads were discussed as potential candidates.

The Daily Herald reported Friday that Chesnut was a close friend of Reams. He's been a city employee for 29 years.

He'll be the day-to-day administrator of the city during a search for a permanent manager.

Reams died late Tuesday of an apparent heart attack after leaving a Tuesday council meeting because he wasn't feeling well. He was 59.
