OREM, Utah (AP) -- Officials say longtime Orem City Manager Jim Reams is dead after an apparent heart attack. He was 53.

The Daily Herald of Provo reported Wednesday that Mayor Jerry Washburn released a statement saying Reams died after leaving the City Council meeting Tuesday night because he wasn't feeling well.

Washburn credited Reams with skill and foresight in leading the city administration and with contributing to programs that'll help the community for decades to come.

Orem police Sgt. Craig Martinez says Reams was the kind of boss who knew everyone's name.
