SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah Democrat is decrying a decision not to hold a key vote on tax cuts until after Election Day.
Rep. Jim Matheson penned a letter to the speaker of the House and the House majority leader earlier this month, signed by around 30 lawmakers total, asking for the Bush-era tax cuts to be extended.

"We don't have the time right now to overhaul the tax code when these tax cuts are scheduled to expire in just three months," Matheson says. "So that's why I say, do the extension now."
In her weekly news conference, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., wouldn't commit to a vote before Election Day, although she promised to take up tax cuts for the middle class before the end of the congressional session.
Matheson tells KSL's Doug Wright there's no room for partisanship right now.
"This is not a Democratic or Republican problem. This is an American problem," he says.
The Senate also delayed its vote until after the November elections.
