FARMINGTON -- The longtime fire chief in Farmington passed away Thursday.

According to his colleagues the Farmington Fire Department, Larry Gregory died of complications related to brain cancer. Gregory had served as chief since September of 1995.

According to Ogden's Standard-Examiner, Gregory submitted a letter of resignation, recently reviewed by the city council, citing declining health. Gregory had planned to stay in the position until a new chief was selected.

City leaders had intended to replace Gregory by December.

The fire department has two full-time employees and 33 part-time employees.
