SALT LAKE CITY (KSL News Services -- The Red Cross of Greater Salt Lake just sent six volunteers to the hurricane zone but not to help with disaster relief efforts from Hurricane Wilma.
Red Cross CEO Mariann Geyer says they've trained 150 new volunteers to be dispatched to go to the Gulf Coast Region, Florida, or here at home. She says any volunteers sent from Utah would likely stay until the end of the year.
While damage from Hurricane Wilma is severe, it hasn’t been severe enough to dispatch additional volunteers to Florida, but they’re ready if needed. Geyer says they just sent six volunteers to the Gulf Coast region to help with the Katrina clean-up efforts and says they’re still training and signing up new volunteers each Monday.
