KSL joins Utah Jazz fans everywhere in congratulating Karl Malone on this day of his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Has it really been six years since he retired from the game; more than a dozen since he and John Stockton led the Jazz to two appearances in the NBA finals; indeed a quarter of a century since the Jazz picked him 13th overall in the 1985 draft! Could anyone predict the success he would have as they watched him that first summer riding on a float down Main Street in the Pioneer Day Parade. July 24th just happened to be his birthday.
The Mailman's accomplishments speak volumes:
-The NBA's second all-time leading scorer.
-Two-time league MVP.
-First in free throws attempted and made.
-First all-time in defensive rebounds.
-14 consecutive All-Star appearances.
The list could go on. Malone's basketball credentials are impeccable. But, he is also a hall-of-famer in community involvement and altruistic generosity. And although, he has returned to live in his native Louisiana, his presence in the Beehive State still looms large.
Karl Malone's years on the court may have passed all too quickly, but the memory of those exhilarating times and his powerful presence will live long in our collective memory.
