STANSBURY PARK -- A Stansbury Park family is trying to get through a devastating tragedy after an 8-year-old boy died by getting strangled by a bathrobe belt Sunday evening.

Lt. Jeff Morgan with the Tooele County Sheriff's Office says the boy had just finished dinner. He and his brother went to change out of their church clothes so they could go outside.

At some point the 8-year-old got distracted and started playing with the belt taken off of a bathrobe. He tied one end of the belt to the top bunk bed and then started hanging and twirling on it below.

Morgan says investigators aren't sure how, but the belt ended up getting wrapped around the boy's neck and cut off his airway.

"About 15 minutes later his brother goes up to see what was taking him so long and goes up there and finds him there hanging from the bunk bed," said Morgan.

Paramedics tried to revive the boy, who was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center. He was pronounced dead around 7:30 p.m.
