SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A West Jordan man has been charged with negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with a deadly October 2009 traffic accident.

Police say 30-year-old Ronald Matthew Torres rear-ended a van stopped at a red light on Bangerter Highway.

When the other driver, Milton Patterson, got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage, Torres is accused of driving forward and striking him. Patterson died a week later.

Police say Torres initially insisted his car was stolen and he was not the driver, but he eventually admitted driving the vehicle the night of the accident.

Court records show Torres has pleaded guilty to two earlier driving under the influence charges.
