SALT LAKE CITY -- A federal grand jury has indicted a Denver man for writing a threatening note that prompted an emergency landing in Salt Lake City.
Prosecutors say Andrew Escobar taped the note to a beverage cart on United Flight 741 in February. The pilot thought it credible enough to divert the flight.
The passengers were unloaded while investigators searched the plane. No bomb was ever found.
Escobar now faces federal charges of communicating false information endangering aircraft safety. If convicted, he could face 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
