FARMINGTON -- Davis County fire officials believe fireworks sparked a fire that scorched a few acres in the foothills of Farmington.

The fire started just before 10 p.m. Monday above Bella Vista Drive. Crews say strong winds helped pushed the blaze up the mountainside quickly. It blackened three acres of land near a subdivision before crews extinguished it.

Witnesses reported seeing someone shoot off fireworks in the area.

Chief Jim Rampton of the South Davis Metro Fire Agency said, "With winds at night, shooting these fireworks into very dry grasses is a very huge problem."

Police are questioning at least two people about the fireworks.
