WASATCH COUNTY -- An influential and well-known Wasatch County resident pleaded not guilty Wednesday to 43 counts of child sexual abuse.

Lon Harvey Kennard, 68, is the co-founder of a charity, Village of Hope, that helped Ethiopian orphans. He has adopted six children from the country himself.

Kennard's arrest on charges that he sexually abused and sexually exploited children shocked his community.

The charges also allege Kennard sexually abused two of his adoptive daughters, who are now adults.

A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 8.
