FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) -- A Utah judge on Wednesday set a Sept. 10 date for the next hearing for a couple charged in the beating death of the woman's 4-year-old son.

Defense attorneys for Stephanie and Nathanael Sloop told 2nd District Judge Michael Allphin they need additional time to prepare for the potential death-penalty case.

Both defendants are charged with aggravated murder and other felonies related to Ethan Stacy's death in May. The boy's disfigured body was found buried in the Utah mountains.

In court Wednesday, Nathanael Sloop shouted, "I love you, Stephanie!" as he was being led from a holding cell.

Stephanie Sloop filed a petition last month to annul the couple's May 6 marriage. She was being held in a different holding cell as each made separate court appearances.
