SALT LAKE COUNTY -- The Jordan School District is eliminating some hazardous bus routes for children who live closer to schools. The move will save money but it could increase traffic around the schools.
During rush hour, 1300 West can get busy. Children who live to the south and east of the road construction on11400 South have a difficult time walking to South Jordan Elementary.
"There are no sidewalks. There's no safe walking zone for the kids," says parent Marc Roberts.
He drives his son to school because of the construction. He feels that eliminating bus routes will increase traffic around the school.
"It's already busy," he says. "There's going to be a lot more congestion, more concern for the kids and the safety of the kids."
The district says the cuts in bus routes will save teaching jobs.
Cities plan to add crossing guards and paint more crosswalks for the fall.
