SALT LAKE CITY -- Funeral services have been announced for famed painter Arnold Friberg, who died Thursday at the age of 96.

A public viewing will be held Friday, July 9, at the LDS Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will be in the Friberg Gallery, which houses the 12 Book of Mormon paintings Friberg painted originally for the LDS Church's children's magazine.

The family encourages the public to attend the viewing, knowing how many lives Friberg touched and inspired.

The funeral will be held at the Assembly Hall on Temple Square Saturday, July 10, at 11 a.m.

The illustrator and painter was known for his religious and patriotic works. Among his most famous pieces is the 1975 painting "The Prayer at Valley Forge." Friberg's breathtaking creation of the parting of the Red Sea was filmed for the movie "The Ten Commandments."
