OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Police are investigating the death of a six-year-old girl who was hit by a vehicle.

The incident happened about nine o'clock Wednesday night.

Ogden police Lieutenant Scott Sangberg says Kassandra Hyde was crossing Washington Boulevard on the 1100 block with her father and a younger sister.

The family was about three-hundred feet from the intersection when the younger sister got left behind.

Sangberg says the father told Kassandra to stay in the median while he got the other girl. However, she followed him and was hit by a vehicle.

Police say the driver didn't see the girl at first but did try to stop.

Kassandra died en route to the hospital.
