SALT LAKE CITY -- A fight broke out on a plane headed to Salt Lake City Tuesday morning and no one could break it up until the plane had landed.

Delta flight 1105 was headed to Salt Lake International from Hawaii Tuesday morning, but instead of a relaxing flight after a trip to the islands, two men started arguing as the plane was reaching the west coast. Passengers told KSL the argument then escalated into a physical fight.

"Sounds like to me that they were highly intoxicated and there was a scuffle, and there were other passengers trying to break it up," said Superintendent of Airport Operations David Korzep.

He adds the flight crew had also tried to separate the two fighting men but had been unsuccessful. Airport police were waiting as the plane landed.

"They entered the aircraft and the fight was in progress between passengers, which the airport police had to break up," said Korzep.

Both men were arrested for disorderly conduct, public intoxication and assault on a police officer after they resisted arrest.

The FBI is interviewing both men, who are said to be Russian nationals that currently live in Colorado.

Salt Lake Airport officials now say only one of the two men involved in the fight will go to jail and face the original charges. They say after conducting interviews, police concluded the second man was just defending himself from the first man.
