WEST VALLEY CITY -- A 15-year-old girl who was hit by a car back in February died Sunday morning.

An attorney for the Macala Holloway's family says the teen had been fighting to survive a traumatic brain injury, but after four months she passed away.

Holloway was hit in a crosswalk near 8500 West and 2700 South on Feb. 8 while she was walking to school. Her family is now pursuing a wrongful death claim against the driver.

"Unfortunately the medical bills are over $1 million, and the insurance policy for the driver is significantly less than that," said attorney Kenneth Christensen, who is representing Holloway's parents.

Christensen says the parents, Terry and Rebecca Ewell, don't want to go after the driver personally. They're hoping generous donors will help make up the difference.

"The family does not have any ill will, and they're doing their best to cope with this situation," Christensen said.

Anyone interested in making a contribution can do so at any Zions Bank branch* under the name of Macala Holloway.

Meanwhile, Unified police say there could possibly be charges against the driver.
