MIDVALE -- A man went to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after being shot in the stomach while inside a Midvale home.

Midvale police responded to a shots fired call near 7800 South and Holden Street just before 3 p.m. The man, who was in the basement when he was shot, was able to crawl out of a window and flag down one of the officers.

The injured man was taken to an area hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

"We're not sure, at this point, if he's going to make it out of surgery or not. So, at this point, we're not sure if it's going to be a homicide or just an aggravated assault or attempted murder," said Midvale police Sgt. Marcelo Rapela.

Meanwhile, police tracked down what they thought was the suspect's vehicle about a block away from the home. They arrested the driver on felony warrants, but soon found out he had nothing to do with the shooting.

The actual suspect is a 28-year-old male who was a tenant in the home. The landlord had asked the victim and another man to come over and help her evict the suspect. They were in the process of doing so when the victim was shot.

Police are now searching for the suspect and another man who fled the scene. They are believed to be driving a full-size, green van that has a brown stripe. Both men are believed to be gang members.

If see the van, contact the Midvale Police Department at 801-840-4000.
