SALT LAKE COUNTY -- The Unified Police Department is offering ankle monitors to keep people with cognitive conditions from getting lost.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the department joined a list of law enforcement groups that offer wrist or ankle monitor tracking for families that care for someone who might wander off, such as those with Alzheimer's, autism, Down syndrome and dementia.

A LoJack SafetyNet advertisement shows the radio frequency monitors are designed to be worn 24 hours a day and they're waterproof.

The service costs $99 to enroll and $30 a month. The devices are designed to be tracked only by police.
