PIUTE COUNTY -- A 21-year-old Richfield man drowned Saturday at Piute Reservoir.
Sheriff's officials say Troy Greenhalgh and three friends were at the reservoir testing out two new WaveRunners.
Around 6:00 p.m., one of the men was out on the water when the WaveRunner's engine stalled. Greenhalgh took the other WaveRunner out on the water to help his friend, but the engine of his watercraft stalled as well.
Deputies say the friend stayed on his watercraft until it drifted to the dam, where he swam to shore. Greenhalgh also tried to swim to shore, but began to struggle.
Two of his friends swam out to help him, but Greenhalgh went under and never resurfaced. The two men made it back to shore and called 911.
Crews combed the water until late into the night, then resumed the search Sunday morning. They recovered Greenhalgh's body just before 9 a.m.
One of the men was transported to Sevier Valley Medical Center where he was treated for hypothermia. He has since been released.
