Press releaseSALT LAKE CITY -- Utah head basketball coach Jim Boylen has announced the signing of combo guard Chris Kupets to a National Letter of Intent, bringing the Utes' spring signee total to four. Kupets will come to Utah from Hill College (Hillsboro, Texas).
"Chris is a combo guard who can both score and create offensive opportunities for his teammates," said Boylen. "He reminds me of other players I have coached like Tyler Kepkay here, or Drew Nietzel at Michigan State. He plays an up-tempo style and will fit well in our pick-and-roll system. I was really impressed with Chris' desire to be a Ute and be a piece of what we are building here. Like all of our spring commitments, our current players built strong relationships with him on his visit and knew they wanted Chris to be their teammate."
Kupets, who hails from Athens, Ga., is a 5-foot-11, 175-lb. guard. A second-team All-North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) selection last year, he was Hill's leading scorer with 15.9 points per game, ranking ninth in the league. He also led the Rebels in assists at 5.5 per contest, ranking fourth in the NTJCAC, while chipping in 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game as well.
"I could tell right away that it would be a great relationship with the coaches and current players at Utah," said Kupets. "I think my style of play, scoring and getting up and down the court, will fit well in the program. They have some great players coming in and some great players already there. I think they have a chance to win and I am really excited to be a part of that."
