ROY -- Police have arrested a man accused of driving over a convenience store clerk who tried to stop him from stealing gasoline.
Police say Bradford Beddes is the man who went to a Maverik convenience store at 3500 West and 5600 South in Roy Wednesday morning, pumped more than $100 worth of gasoline into his pickup truck, then tried to drive away.
Clerk Deejay Crase saw the thief and tried to stop him. The thief's vehicle hit Crase and drove over him.
Crase went to the hospital with a punctured lung, broken ribs, broken collarbone and head injuries.
Roy Police Chief Greg Whinham says police followed tips to a home, where they found Beddes hiding in a closet.
"There's a lot of options if you can't afford gasoline. You don't need to be stealing it and running people over just to get away," Whinham said.
Investigators say it looks like others tried to help Beddes cover this up. They believe he also may have pulled off gas heists in Clearfield and Layton.
Beddes has been booked into jail on charges of aggravated robbery.
