TOOELE, Utah (AP) -- The Tooele County Commission has selected attorney John Dow as its new Justice Court judge.

Dow replaces retiring Judge Williams Pitt. He begins his new duties on May 15.

An attorney with more than 20 years of experience, Dow was selected from a field of 28 candidates.

Before working as an attorney, Dow was a bailiff and a corrections officer working for the Tooele County sheriff's office. He was a county prosecutor for 15 years, working in both the Tooele Justice Court and juvenile court. He spent the last two years working in the Wendover Justice Court.

Dow earned his law degree from Pepperdine University in 1990.

His appointment is pending the approval of Utah's Administative Office of the Courts.
