It's always interesting to find out what inspires someone to choose their career path. Sometimes it's because of a passion for some particular element; other times it may be a lifelong dream. For Greg Adams, it started with a television show.
"Sea Hunt," starring Lloyd Bridges, was one of the most popular syndicated shows in the 1960s. The undersea adventure series featured plenty of underwater fight scenes as the lead character, Mike Nelson, hunted down criminals from the undersea underworld and ran afoul of sharks, manta rays, octopuses and giant sea turtles. He also went after treasures and performed daring rescues, all in stunning scuba diving locations.
This exciting show inspired a young Greg Adams to take an open water scuba diving class. He discovered a passion for scuba diving, particularly in exciting places he gets to visit as a diver, including Fiji, Philippines, Chuuk, Palau and even Southern California. He became a PADI, or Professional Association of Diving Instructors, master scuba diver instructor, and since diving is such an important part of his life, he opened Dive Utah —Utah's Family Dive Center, to provide supplies and training for other divers.
Dive Utah, with locations in Ogden and Holladay, is one of the state's oldest dive shops. It offers scuba equipment such as BCDs, regulators, masks, fins, underwater cameras and wet and dry suits. Greg says the shop carries well-known brands such as ScubaPro, Sherwood and Halcyon. Dive Utah also offers a wide variety of classes from Open Water through Trimix, from master scuba instructors. Both locations have 12-foot deep pools for divers to receive confined water training, in addition to their classroom instruction.
Dive Utah provides air refills, including enriched Nitrox air, and scuba gear tune-ups. Greg is happy to allow customers to try any product before they purchase it. Scuba equipment is essentially life support for clients while they're under the water, so Greg takes seriously his role in providing it and offers only the best products.
