LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- The city of Logan has opened its first bike lanes.
The 5-foot-wide bike lanes run along both sides of 500 North. The road connects Utah State University and Main Street.
Crews painted the new lanes featuring painted white bicycles last week.
Logan Public Works Director Mark Nielsen says 500 North is one of the few streets wide enough to accommodate both bike lanes and on-street parking.
Logan plans to eventually make seven miles of roadway more accessible to bikes.
The roads will have either their own bike lanes or sharrows where streets aren't wide enough for lanes. Sharrows are roadway markings to show where bikes will share the road.
