(St. George--AP) -- One of the thirstiest residents in St. George has been ripped out and thrown away.
Officials at City Hall decided the green grass lawn covering a slope in front of the building was just too impractical in the desert community.
One official said watering that lawn used one-point-five million gallons of water per year.
So they ripped up the grass and plan to install a desert-themed landscape. That's expected to cost somewhere around 100-thousand dollars.
But city leaders say in a time of drought -- when they're warning residents to conserve water -- St. George couldn't afford to keep watering that grass.
