SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The University of Utah is hosting an electronic waste recycling event.
The collection of discarded electronics is taking place Thursday on campus in honor of Earth Day.
Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker will attend to speak about the environmental benefits of recycling electronic waste.
Discarded electronics that aren't recycled can end up in landfills, and lead and mercury may leach into groundwater and soil.
Residents and campus personnel can drop off household electronics like televisions, computer monitors, printers and cell phones for disposal.
Bring the items to the Turpin University Services Building parking lot, which is immediately west of the Huntsman Center on the University of Utah Campus, between 7:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
