(Photo courtesy Sandy police)SANDY -- Police are looking for the vandals who smashed religious statues at a Sandy cemetery overnight.

Workers at Larkin Sunset Gardens discovered the damage Monday morning. Three imported statues of Jesus Christ were missing all or part of their heads.

Cemetery spokesman Spencer Larkin says the statues can't be repaired and will have to be replaced. He says the statues were imported from Italy about 40 years ago. The statues are valued at between $40,000 and $80,000 apiece.

Sandy police Sgt. Troy Arnold says police are looking for clues, but that without surveillance they have little to go on.

Police have no witnesses and are asking the public for help. If you have any information on who may have been involved, contact the Sandy Police Department at 801-840-4000.
