SOUTH SALT LAKE -- A standoff at a South Salt Lake City home prompted police to evacuate a neighborhood Sunday night.

Police say the 55-year-old man and a family member got into a fight around 3 p.m. at the home near 300 West and Fenton Avenue. When officers arrived, the man barricaded himself inside with a gun and a knife and threatened to kill himself.

As of 10 p.m. Sunday, neighbors have been asked to evacuate their homes and SWAT teams have been called in. Officials are trying to negotiate with the man by phone, but so far, have been unsuccessful.

The man's sister tells the Deseret News he recently had eye surgery and is in a lot of pain from having Hepatitis C and needing a new liver.
