There's hope a meeting on Tuesday between Sen. Curt Bramble and the PTA will help smooth over the heated disagreements about Senate Bill 199.
It's called "Equal Recognition of School Parent Groups," but the PTA says the bill would force them out of schools. The bill would bar schools from working with parent groups that require parents to pay dues. PTA requires its members to pay a $5 membership fee.
Meanwhile, a Provo mom has quit the race to be the PTA president of her school. Mitzi Collins testified on Capitol Hill in favor of the bill, but she told the Deseret News she became upset after "inappropriate and inaccurate" e-mails circulated following that testimony.
An amendment to the bill says parent groups should waive dues at a parent's request.
