SALT LAKE CITY-- Republican lawmakers are turning to unpaid furloughs to save Utah jobs.

Lawmakers agreed to allow furloughs of up to 11 days for state and higher-education employees. That equates to a four-percent pay cut.

Furloughs and pay cuts could save more than $1,000 jobs, according to the Deseret News.
