WEST VALLEY CITY -- Prosecutors have until August to gather evidence against a West Valley City man accused of murdering his girlfriend.
A judge has set Aug. 11 as the date of the preliminary hearing for Thomas James Valdez, 44.
At that time he will decide if there is enough evidence to try Valdez on charges of homicide and using a deadly weapon by a restricted person in connection with the death of Maralee A. Andreason, 55, earlier this month.
Andreason was found beaten and stabbed to death in the West Valley apartment she shared with Valdez.
Valdez allegedly admitted to the crime to a relative, who alerted police.
