SALT LAKE CITY -- Friends and family of a Sandy man who died in a car crash last week gathered Monday night -- his birthday -- to pay tribute to his life.

"I don't even have words for it," Jill Kemple said. "There's just been an immense amount of caring."

Her son, 25-year-old Michael Peterson, was killed March 23 when an SUV ran a red light and slammed into his car.

Monday's vigil was held at the scene of the accident -- South Temple and E Street in Salt Lake -- to remember him.
