Press releaseMURRAY -- Utah Transit Authority advises motorists of three weekend closures of 5300 South in Murray beginning this weekend for bridge construction work on the FrontRunner Provo to Salt Lake City commuter rail project.
The weekend closures will take place March 19-22, March 26-29 and April 2-5. The road will be closed starting at 10 p.m. each Friday and extend through 5 a.m. on the following Monday.
5300 South will be closed east of I-15 between 300 West and 380 West. I-15 on- and off-ramps at 5300 South will not be affected by this closure. Detours will be available.
Crews will be drilling three shafts for piers of the bridge that will be built over 5300 South, hauling off the spoils from drilling and filling the shafts with concrete.
All future lane restrictions for other work related to the bridge will take place during off-peak hours only, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. or at night.
The new FrontRunner commuter rail line will run 45 miles from downtown Provo to Salt Lake City where it will connect to the existing FrontRunner line at Salt Lake Central Station. It will feature six new stations in Murray, South Jordan, Lehi, American Fork, Orem and Provo.
