Wisconsin's Klesmit exits early with injury in win over Washington

Wisconsin starting guard Max Klesmit exited with what the team called a lower leg injury early in the Badgers 88-62 win over Washington. Klesmit left with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half and did not return. Eleventh-ranked Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said afterward that Klesmit has been dealing with the injury for a while. His status for Sunday's game against No 8 Michigan State was not determined.

The Illini built a 19-6 lead and went to intermission up 37-30 in a first half in which they never trailed. They started the second half in near identical fashion as the first by outscoring the Hawkeyes 19-8 in the first five-and-a-half minutes and led 56-38.

West Virginia (17-11, 8-9 Big 12) rebounded from a 73-51 loss at then-No. 9 Texas Tech and avenged a 65-60 loss at TCU. Small and Sencire Harris each scored 11 points in the first half to help West Virginia build a 42-27 halftime lead.  Trazarien White scored 11 points and was the only player in double figures for TCU (15-13, 8-9).

John Tonje added 13 points for the Badgers, who lost 77-73 to Oregon in overtime at home Saturday after leading by 15 with under eight minutes left. Steven Crowl and Xavier Amos had 12 points apiece for Wisconsin. Great Osobor scored 11 for Washington, which has lost three straight and 11 of 14.

The Stegeman Coliseum public address announcer made repeated requests in the final minute of Georgia's 88-83 upset of No. 3 Florida to wait 90 seconds after the game and give the Gators and officials time to leave the court. The message, delivered during late timeouts, included the addendum that fans then would be welcome to celebrate on the court. Perhaps the biggest surprise was fans followed the instructions.

Abou Ousmane scored 25 points and Oklahoma State defeated No. 9 Iowa State 74-68. Arturo Dean had 14 points and seven steals, and Bryce Thompson added 11 points for the Cowboys. Oklahoma State had no previous wins over AP Top 25 teams this season under first-year coach Steve Lutz. The Cowboys lost their previous two games against ranked opponents Texas Tech and Kansas by a combined 70 points. Josh Jefferson scored 17 points and Nate Heise added 13 for Iowa State. The Cyclones were trying to bounce back from a loss at then-No. 5 Houston on Saturday. Keshon Gilbert, the team's No. 2 scorer this season, sat out with a muscle strain.

Jai Lucas came up with a plan to beat Miami. Going forward, the Hurricanes want him to keep that from happening. Lucas, in his role as Duke's associate head coach, drew the task of coming up with the scouting report for the Blue Devils' game at Miami on Tuesday night. No. 2 Duke won easily, 97-60. The teams met three days after Lucas agreed to become Miami's next coach, pending the completion of a contract. Those talks are continuing, and neither side has announced that a deal has been completed.

Edgecombe made three 3-pointers in succession and Baylor led 57-56 with 8:13 to go. Aziz Bandaogo followed with a tip-in and Cincinnati led the rest of the way.

Duke guard Tyrese Proctor appeared to injure his left knee late in the first half of the second-ranked Blue Devils' 97-60 win over Miami. There was no immediate word on his status going forward. Coach Jon Scheyer says Proctor will have X-rays and an MRI when the team gets back to North Carolina. During the game, Proctor eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his Duke career. Proctor was going backward in an effort to defend against a Miami fast break when his left leg appeared to buckle when he planted his foot. He hobbled off the court.

Duncan Powell set career-highs with 26 points and six 3-pointers, Lance Terry added 20 points and Georgia Tech beat Pittsburgh 73-67. Georgia Tech (14-14, 8-9 ACC) won on the road in conference play for just the second time in 11 attempts this season. The Yellow Jackets' overall record is at .500, a position they have not been in at this point in the season since 2020-21. Naithan George made two free throws with 55 seconds left to give Georgia Tech a 69-67 lead. Pitt had two chances at the other end, including a wide-open layup attempt by Ishmael Leggett that rolled off the rim. George grabbed a rebound and passed ahead to Terry for a fast-break layup and a 71-67 lead with 22.8 left.

Florida, which trailed by 26 points in the first half, rallied from a 78-67 deficit with the 13-0 run to lead 80-78. Cain's 3-pointer ended the run. Georgia boosted its hopes for its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2015. The Bulldogs ended Florida's 12-game winning streak in series and gave coach Mike White his first win against his former Florida team. White had been 0-6 against the Gators.

The Wildcats had its largest lead at 64-47 with 7:05 left and led by double digits nearly the rest of the way. Martinelli, who leads the Big Ten averaging 19.7 points, was the only player in double figures for Northwestern (15-13, 6-11 Big Ten). The Wildcats, who beat Ohio State 70-49, have won consecutive games since ending a three-game losing streak. Dawson Garcia scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Minnesota (14-14, 6-11).

ESPN Events says the Diamond Head Classic, an eight-team men's college basketball tournament in Honolulu that traditionally ended on Christmas Day, will not be played next season. It's not clear if the tournament will resume in the future. A statement on the tournament website Tuesday said the event has been paused and will not happen in 2025. ESPN Events, which operates the tournament, said last year that it was planning to hold the 2025 event over Thanksgiving week and add a women's tournament for the first time.

Stanford athletic director Bernard Muir will resign after 13 years on the job. Muir announced his decision on Tuesday to step down at the end of the academic year. Muir took over from Bob Bowlsby in July 2012 and oversaw an athletic department that won dozens of national titles but struggled in recent years in the high-profile sports of football and men's basketball. Muir also oversaw the Cardinal's transition to the ACC this past year after the school's long-term home, the Pac-12, broke apart.

College Football HOF coach Joe Fusco, who won 4 NAIA titles at Westminster College, dies

Westminster College of Pennsylvania has announced the death of College Football Hall of Fame coach Joe Fusco at age 87. Fusco, who died Saturday, won four NAIA Division II national championships in 19 years at Westminster College. Fusco coached Westminster from 1972-90 and won national titles in 1976, 1977, 1988 and 1989. The Titans won 21 of 22 games in the 1976-77 seasons and had the nation's longest winning streak with 27 consecutive victories over the 1988-89 seasons. Fusco had a 154-34-3 record in 19 years at Westminster for a .814 winning percentage.

CFP commissioners put off any decisions on changes to playoff format, including seeding of teams

Conference commissioners who are part of the College Football Playoff have put off any decisions on potential changes to the format, including how the 12-team field is seeded. Several commissioners said after a meeting in Dallas they needed more information before making any possible adjustments. The meeting came a week after the SEC and Big Ten commissioners met with their 34 athletic directors and came out in favor of seeding changes. Rich Clark, the executive director of the CFP, says much of Tuesday's meeting included a review of the first 12-team playoff last season.

Lauren Betts of UCLA was the runner-up. The junior center scored 22 points with seven rebounds, six blocks and three assists in a win over then-No. 25 Illinois. She broke the school's single-season block record in that game.

Tar Heels' Davis gets 2-year extension through 2030, hires agent Jim Tanner as GM

North Carolina coach Hubert Davis has signed a two-year extension running through the 2029-30 season. Davis has also hired basketball agent Jim Tanner as the men's basketball program's first executive director and general manager. The school announced Tanner's hiring Tuesday. That came roughly three weeks after Davis talked about plans to hire a GM. UNC also posted an updated contract for Davis on its official athletics website. That deal was reached in July and signed in December. It includes a pay raise with Davis averaging $3.2 million in base and supplemental pay through June 2030.

Georgetown's Thomas Sorber is set for foot surgery and out for the rest of the season

Georgetown freshman big man Thomas Sorber will miss the rest of the season because of a foot injury. The school announced Tuesday that Sober injured his left foot on Feb. 15 in a loss at Butler and would have surgery on Wednesday. Sorber is the Hoyas' second-leading scorer and top rebounder. He averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds over 24 games. Georgetown visits UConn on Wednesday night and hosts No. 21 Marquette on Saturday before wrapping up Big East regular-season play next week against Villanova and DePaul.

It's not surprising so many big games involve SEC teams given how dominant the league has been this season.
