BLUFFDALE -- A Bluffdale man was charged Wednesday for shining a light into an Army National Guard helicopter.
30-year-old Joshua D. Park is charged with one count of interference with the operation of an aircraft.
The charge stems from a Feb. 19 incident where Park allegedly pointed a laser into the cockpit of an Army National Guard Apache helicopter flying over the Bluffdale area.
The pilot of the helicopter was able to pinpoint the area from which the light came and notified the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies began knocking on doors in that area and Park admitted to them he shined his light at the helicopter.
The charge carries a potential maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
